Ranking the Fastest Cars Autophiles Must Test-Drive

There was once a time when the Mercedes 35 HP was the fastest car in the world. With a max speed of just over 53 miles per hour, it was the world’s fastest car the year it debuted in 1901. It’s nearly 125 years later, and now the fastest cars can reach astonishingly swift speeds over five times that amount. The limit keeps getting pushed as to how fast a car can go. If you’re a car enthusiast who loves cars that reach amazingly high speeds, keep on reading.

The online automotive news publication, Top Speed, has ranked the Fastest Cars In the World based on their record-high speeds. 24/7 Wall St. reviewed the list and has added supplemental information from TopSpeed on details such as price, horsepower, type of engine, and zero-to-60 miles per hour acceleration time.

You’ll find familiar favorites on the list, such as Bugatti and McLaren. However, you’ll also find some powerful lesser-known brands made the cut as well. Don’t expect to see major brands, such as Ford or Dodge on this list. These cars are expensive, boutique brands, with most costing in the millions of dollars. Unsurprisingly, it takes a great deal of engineering and technology to design cars this powerful, and they aren’t for the average car buyer.

According to TopSpeed data, the title of the world’s fastest automobile currently belongs to the Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut. This hypercar was originally revealed in 2020 and boasts a twin-turbo V-8 engine, an aerodynamic profile finely tuned through computational fluid dynamics, and lightweight carbon fiber construction. It reaches an incredible top speed of over 300 mph.

Let’s not count out the French-made Bugatti Bolide, which as the third-fastest car is not far behind in this race. This Bugatti easily breaks the 300-mph barrier with its 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine delivering 1,825 horsepower. Unsurprisingly, this car is not cheap and generally goes for roughly $4.3 million. (Here are the most outrageous car collections in the world.)

Here is a look at the fastest cars in the world.
