These Vehicles Take the Longest to Sell in 2024

The car industry is a tricky business, as some vehicles sell well, and others sit on the lot far too long. And the rules for which vehicles sell quickly are not equal across all regions. For example, small models like Fiat 500 and Smart sell nicely in Europe, where streets are narrow and extra space is not considered a necessity. However, these same models sold so poorly in the States that they are no longer manufactured for the U.S. market, where it seems bigger is always better.

Currently, the best-selling vehicle in the United States is the American-made Ford F-Series. According to Car and Driver, over 350,000 cars were sold in the first half of 2024. Despite the continuing popularity of the Ford, specifically the F-Series, one of the slowest selling cars in March was the F-150 Lightning.

One brand that manufactures some of the slowest selling cars is Lincoln. In fact, our list features three models by this longstanding car brand. These include the Nautilus, the Navigator, and the Navigator L. While the average car sells in 54 days, these three models take much longer, with the Navigator L taking a whopping 123.3 days to move off the lot.

To find the slowest-selling cars, 24/7 Wall St. reviewed iSeeCars.com’s Fastest Selling Cars study, which analyzed 463,000 new and used car sales between October 2023 and March 2024. We listed here the 20 slowest-selling new cars. All of the cars on the list take at least 90 days to sell, considerably longer than the industry average of 54 days. We also added second quarter sales volume and change from last year from GoodCarBadCar.

Why This Matters

Knowing market conditions when going to buy a new car is important. Cars that tend to sit longest on dealership lots also have the potential for deepest discounts. Knowing which cars are slow to move can help in zeroing in on car and encourage further negotiations.
