The Battle of Midway was a famous WWII conflict that came roughly six months after Japan’s tragic attack on Pearl Harbor. As Japan sought to control as much of the Pacific as possible, they focused their sights on the small Midway Island, which housed an American base. America’s success during this four-day battle represented a turning point for the allies and foretold of their eventual win.

During this decisive battle, aircraft were paramount to defeating the Japanese. One particular plane that was invaluable to America’s war effort was the Douglas SBD Dauntless dive bomber. Originally put into service in 1938, this plane carried two ty machine gun and had a bomb load of 2,250 lbs.

To identify every aircraft that fought in the Battle of Midway, 24/7 Wall St. reviewed a catalog of aircraft from Military Factory, an online database of arms, vehicles, and aircraft. We ordered these aircraft chronologically. We included supplemental information regarding type, armament, speed, and manufacturer.
