American is home to a vast territory, and the income of its citizens covers a wide range from extreme poverty to opulent wealth.
But what areas of the country are the most impoverished?
Using the US Census Bureau’s American Community Survey metro area-level data on median household income, additional income, and population data, 24/7 Wall St. identified the poorest city in every state.
Let’s take a closer look.
Why Does This Matter?
Poverty is important to discuss because it is ever-present and not going away. The consequences yield health risks, social risks, and human rights violations for those living in it. The harm it inflicts on children follows them through life and can continue the cycle as they reach adulthood.
